Report on Preparation of GHS Implementation by the OECD Countries

This report presents a compilation of the responses received from the OECD countries to the questionnaire on preparation of GHS implementation, which was developed by the OECD and UNITAR/ILO. The Secretariat received responses for 27 out of 30 member countries: Canada, Japan, Australia, the European Commission (EC) on behalf of the 19 EU member countries, Norway, Switzerland, New Zealand, the United States and Korea. In addition, the responses from the EC are also relevant for the 8 other EU Member States, which are not OECD countries

Stocktaking of Progress on Integrating Adaptation to Climate Change into Development Co-operation Activities

Factoring climate concerns into development projects is a pressing need for aid recipients and a sound strategy for international donors.  This report surveys 26 bilateral and 10 multilateral donors to track trends and highlight innovative approaches used by them to incorporate climate risks into their activities. The report concludes that international donors have made significant progress in recognizing the importance of climate risks in their development co-operation policies. Translating such concerns into operational practices, however, remains a difficult challenge.

OECD's Amano calls for greater use of economic instruments and policies to address climate change

In his address at Italy's National Conference on Climate Change, Rome, 12 September 2007, OECD Deputy Secretary General emphasized that climate policies should be based on the wide spread use of market-based instruments. He also noted that such policies need to be better integrated with other development objectives, and highlighted the need for greater investment in climate change adaptation in low-income countries.

Ce document contribue au suivi de la "Déclaration sur la prise en compte de l’adaptation au changement climatique dans la coopération pour le développement" en visant à offrir une vue d’ensemble des grandes tendances qui se dégagent en ce qui concerne les progrès accomplis et à mettre l’accent sur les approches novatrices adoptées par les agences de coopération pour le développement et les institutions financières internationales (IFI), ainsi que sur les problèmes qu’elles rencontrent pour prendre en compte l’adaptation au changement climatique dans leurs activités.

Revised Guidance for Grouping of Chemicals is now available

The approach described in this guidance document is to consider closely related chemicals as a group, or category, rather than as individual chemicals. In the category approach, not every chemical needs to be tested for every endpoint. Rather, the overall data for that category must prove adequate to support a hazard assessment. The overall data set must allow the estimation of the hazard for the untested endpoints.
