New LEED members – Australia and the Netherlands

Australia joined the LEED Programme in January 2009. Australia is represented on the LEED Directing Committee by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relation (DEEWR).

The Netherlands joined the LEED Programme in January 2009. The Netherlands is represented on the LEED Directing Committee by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW).

Compromis emploi - productivité et effets de composition

Cette étude formalise l’analyse du compromis entre emploi et productivité en étendant le cadre développé par Gordon (1997) pour prendre en compte l’hétérogénéité de la main d’œuvre. La principale expérience rapportée dans l’étude consiste en l’évaluation de l’impact sur l’utilisation de la main d’œuvre et sur la productivité du travail de l’alignement, pour chaque pays de l’OCDE, des taux d’emplois par groupe de population sur ceux des États-Unis.

Les coûts unitaires de la main d’œuvre dans les pays de l’OCDE sont toujours orientés à la hausse au quatrième trimestre de 2008

Principalement tirés par des chutes de la production en volume (produit intérieur brut aux prix constants) dues à la crise, les coûts unitaires de la main d’œuvre pour l’ensemble de l’économie sont en hausse de 0.9% pour la zone OCDE au quatrième trimestre de 2008 et en hausse de 2.9% en glissement annuel.

Higher Education Institutions, Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Good Practice Workshop, Halle, Germany

The aim of the good practice workshop is to follow up the joint policy development project from LEED Programme of the OECD and the German Federal Ministry of Housing, Construction and Urban Affairs with a practical event to enable HEIs and policy makers from eastern Germany to exchange with each other and with participants from other countries around good practice in HEI entrepreneurship support, namely in entrepreneurship education and in start-up support. A rich and diverse programme will also offer participants opportunities to engage in dept-interviews with those behind good practices.

Experts meeting - Employment and Skills Strategies in South-East Asia (ESSSA): Indonesia and the Philippines

The ILO and the OECD jointly organised an experts meeting on fostering employment and skills development strategies in Indonesia and the Philippines, as part of OECD LEED’s initiative on Employment and Skills Development in South East Asia (ESSSA), in Jakarta on 3 December 2008. The meeting addressed issues of decentralisation, partnerships, skills upgrading and integration of the disadvantaged in the labour market and learn the lessons from the OECD experience in these areas.

5th Annual Meeting of the OECD LEED Forum on Partnerships and Local Governance

The meeting focused on Building Strong Partnerships with the Private Sector for Better Jobs and Inclusion. Public sector institutions increasingly understand that working with business at the local level is crucial for promoting quality jobs and social inclusion. Localities are gearing education and training to business needs. Some regions are upgrading local skills demand, working with business to improve productivity thus increasing the availability of good quality jobs. A collective response is required from industry, government, educational institutions, trade unions and community.
