Increasingly sophisticated products and a rapidly changing marketplace mean that surveillance authorities must swiftly detect and recall unsafe products. Global trade now makes international co-operation necessary even to ensure protection of domestic consumers, so enhanced information-sharing mechanisms are critical both between and within countries. The OECD has recently created a Working Party on consumer product safety to facilitate the sharing of information in this field.

The 2008 E-Leaders Conference brought together senior government officials responsible for e-government from OECD countries to discuss the role of e-government in 2020, the impact of e-government on economic development and the creation of an agenda for e-government and public sector delivery. The event was organised in co-operation with The Netherlands's Ministry of the Interior and Kingdgom Relations.
