The launch of OECD Review of Regional Innovation: 15 Mexican States was held in Mexico city on 16th June 2009. The Secretary-General as well as national and state public officials participated in the presentation and discussion which had record attendance.

Ministers responsible for regional and territorial development from around the world gathered at the OECD on 30-31 March to discuss the issues.

Speaking at the ministerial meeting of the territorial development policy committee, Mr. Gurría affirmed that urban and rural regions have a core role to play in promoting sustainable growth. Government leaders, policy makers and practitioners discussed the impact of regional policy, present and future perspectives, at an international conference on “Regional Policy around the World”, held in Porto, Portugal, 29 September 2008. This conference was organised by the Portuguese Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Regional Development, in co-operation with the OECD. On this occasion the report “OECD Territorial Review of Portugal” was officially launched.

The international conference on "What Policies for Globalising Cities? Rethinking the Urban Policy Agenda", co-organised by the OECD and the Spanish authorities, will be held 29-30 March 2007 at the Municipal Congress Hall, in Campo de las Naciones, Madrid. It will bring together government leaders, policy makers and practitioners to examine urban policy in the context of globalisation and the growing challenges for cities.

The OECD hosted an international workshop on “Defining and Measuring Metropolitan Regions” on 27 November 2006 in Paris. The workshop brought together major international organisations, National Statistical Offices and researchers from this field.

The one-day Experts’ Meeting on future Global Infrastructure Needs took place at OECD Headquarters on 1st October 2004. It was organised by the OECD’s International Futures Programme (IFP), and brought together 45 high-level government officials and business executives involved in various infrastructure-related activities.
