L’eau est un élément vital pour le développement humain et économique, et pour la préservation des écosystèmes. Cependant, une mauvaise gouvernance et des investissements inadaptés privent de nombreuses personnes de l’accès aux services liés à l’eau dont elles ont besoin. L’OCDE a participé au 5ème Forum mondial sur l’eau qui s'est tenu du 16 au 22 mars, à Istanbul, Turquie.

Dans de nombreux pays à faible revenu, les ressources naturelles sont considérées comme étant les moteurs de la croissance économique. Cependant, il est difficile de produire des informations économiques utiles à l’action des pouvoirs publics sur la valeur de ces ressources et leur gestion durable. Un nouveau rapport intitulé Greening Development Planning (anglais seulement), examine différentes approches pour défendre du point de vue économique l’amélioration de la gestion de l’environnement et des ressources naturelles dans le cadre de la planification du développement national.

The OECD’s objective is to help its member countries prepare for the future by supporting them with sound policy analysis and options to achieve climate change goals in an environmentally-effective and economically-efficient manner. A number of projects are underway to implement this across several OECD Directorates and in the specialised agencies associated with the OECD, such as the IEA and the NEA. This document highlights this work.

The OECD, in co-operation with the Finnish Ministry for the Environment, organised a workshop on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and Private Investment. The main purpose of the workshop was to improve understanding on how to promote private investment that contributes to the implementation of MEAs and thus to the broader objective of sustainable development. It explored business opportunities under MEAs and new ways to engage business in MEA implementation.

Responding to growing worldwide interest in developing and applying environmental compliance and enforcement indicators, the OECD and the INECE organised, on 3rd and 4th November, 2003 in Paris, a workshop which assisted enforcement agencies in designing enforcement and compliance indicators and using them for agencies’ performance assessment.
