A special edition of Health at a Glance: Europe is released on 7 December 2010. It focuses on health issues across the 27 European Union member states, three European Free Trade Association countries (Iceland, Norway and Switzerland) and Turkey. It gives readers a better understanding of the factors that affect the health of populations and the performance of health systems in these countries. Its 42 indicators present comparable data covering a wide range of topics, including health status, risk factors, health workforce and health expenditure.

This new book focuses on the role of growth and employment/unemployment developments in explaining recent income inequality trends in Brazil, China, India and South Africa, and discusses the roles played by labour market and social policies in both shaping and addressing these inequalities. It includes the papers presented at the joint OECD and European Union High-Level Conference on Inequalities in Emerging Economies held in Paris in May 2010. This work is part of OECD’s ongoing dialogue and co-operation with non-member economies around the world.

Les dépenses sociales publiques brutes ont augmenté de 16% du PIB en 1980 à 19% du PIB en 2007, dont les retraites publiques (7% du PIB) et les dépenses de santé publique (6% du PIB) représentent les plus grandes catégories de dépenses en moyenne. Après la prise en compte des prestations sociales privées et de l’impact de la fiscalité, (1) les dépenses sociales atteignent plus de 30% du PIB aux coûts des facteurs en France et en Belgique, et (2) les écarts entre les dépenses sociales en Autriche, Danemark, Italie, Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis ne sont que de quelques points de pourcentage.

To mark the anniversary, the Development Co-operation Directorate has published a brief which analyses aid spent by DAC members in support of gender equality in fragile and conflicted-affected states. Brazil, China and India represent a growing share of world GDP. They have also become more open to international trade and investment, thus creating new growth opportunities for OECD countries. It is therefore crucial that Brazil, China and India maintain a sustainable growth path, which depends to some extent on well-functioning labour markets. The purpose of the informal seminar was to gather expert views on labour market developments in Brazil, China and India.

As a follow-up to the High-level forum of Employment and Labour Ministers in Toronto in June 2006 , which welcomed the restated Jobs Strategy as a good basis for formulating policy, a Forum took place in Tokyo on 30-31 October 2006. Its purpose was to invite policy makers mainly from countries in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss: i) the challenges of implementing the restated Jobs Strategy in OECD countries in the region; and ii) the relevance of the restated Jobs Strategy for participating non-OECD countries

The OECD and the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research organised on 6 and 7 March 2003 a conference to discuss disability policies for the working-age population. The conference addressed key problems in disability policy, and discussed OECD recommendations on how to tackle them as outlined in the forthcoming publication "Transforming Disability into Ability". The main policy recommendations from the publication formed the basis for the thematic sessions.
