The Latin American Economic Outlook 2009 was presented in Santiago de Chile on 28 November 2008. Two presentations of the report took place at the Chilean capital. The first one hosted by the Ministry of Finance and the second by the Universidad Católica de Chile.

Governments should crack down on tax evasion to raise tax revenues as part of broader efforts to help maintain the flow of aid to developing countries during the global economic downturn, said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría in a speech at the UN International Conference on Financing for Development.

Pour la première fois, les Etats-Unis ont accueilli la réunion annuelle du DevCom. Cette réunion a rassemblé plus de 65 responsables de la Communication et experts, dont de nouveaux donateurs tels que Israël et la Thaïlande. Les thèmes abordés lors des sessions portaient sur : la communication des résultats et l’efficacité de l’aide, les nouvelles tendances liées à Internet, comment rendre le développement plus attractif par les médias et sonder l’opinion publique. La réunion a également permis aux états membres de partager leur expertise en matière de bonnes pratiques.

The director of the OECD Development Centre, Javier Santiso presented the Latin American Economic Outlook 2009 in Madrid on 18 November 2008, at a seminar hosted by Casa de América. This is the second year that the Spanish presentation of the report takes place in this well-known Madrid venue.

The Overseas Development Institute presents the results of Phase I of a thematic study being undertaken to assess the effectiveness of untied aid. The study is in response to the proposals of the Working Party on Aid Effectiveness and the DAC Network on Development Evaluation and the request in the 2001 DAC
Recommendation to untie Official Development Assistance to the Least Developed Countries for a comprehensive evaluation of its impact by 2009.

Les pays de l'OCDE ont réaffirmé les engagements qu’ils ont souscrits en matière d’aide vis-à-vis des pays en développement et entendent s’abstenir de prendre des mesures commerciales protectionnistes, dans le cadre d’un effort concerté visant à soutenir l’économie mondiale et à combattre la récession.

Les apports d’aide ont continué d’augmenter en 2007 si l’on exclut des chiffres les allégements de dette exceptionnels. Ils n’ont toutefois progressé que de 2 % par rapport à leur niveau de 2006. C’est bien trop peu pour que soient honorés les engagements souscrits par les donneurs pour 2010.

The AEO 2008 was presented last week in Luanda, Angola and Praia, Cape Verde. These public presentations were organised with the support of the Portuguese Government and were held at Portugal's embassies in both capitals.

Hosted by the government of Switzerland, the first inaugural meeting of the OECD-Africa Investment Advisory Board will discuss issues related to attracting and utilising investment as a vehicle for growth and development in Africa and guiding the design and implementation of the OECD-Africa Investment Initiative, as well as to achieving synergies with bilateral and multilateral organisations already working in Africa.
