In 2006, the International Futures Programme (IFP) started an eighteen month project that aims to draft a broad policy agenda for governments in respect to the bioeconomy. The bioeconomy, a new concept, covers a broad range of economic activities, each benefiting from new discoveries, related products and services arising out of the biosciences. The project will assess how pervasive biotechnological applications are likely to become, the prospects for further development over the next two to three decades and the potential impact on the economy and society.

We have just launched a new “Codes Archive”. The archive, which can be found at www.biosecuritycodes.org/codes_archive.htm, lists over 20 guidelines, principles and codes from 10 different countries and international organizations that are directly relevant to biosecurity. The website has evolved a great deal since its launch in June, and has received a lot of attention in the biosecurity community. Detailed information is now available and more is being sought. If you have information and want to become involved, please contact webmater@biosecuritycodes.org.
