Harnessing ICT for Better Coordination in Global Supply Chains

Experts in information and communications technologies around the world are gathering in Genoa, Italy,8-9 March to discuss how to better coordinate global freight transport systems. “Efficient transportation of goods is critical to global trade, and is often hampered by lack of coordination between the different actors involved,” said Jack Short, Secretary General of the International Transport Forum.

ITF Brings Transport to the Climate Table in Copenhagen

The International Transport Forum (ITF), the global voice for transport, will be putting the focus on cost-effective greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction from transport at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. It will host the official UNFCCC side-event “Major Transport Emission Reductions: What is Possible? At What Cost?” on 15 December from 10:45 to 12:15 in the Niels Bohr room of the Bella Centre.

ITF Identifies Opportunities for Cutting Transport CO2 Emissions

At the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15), the International Transport Forum (ITF), the global voice for transport, will be putting the focus on cost-effectiveness policies for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transport. Preliminary findings from a new ITF research report, “Reducing Transport GHG Emissions – Opportunities and Costs”, will be presented at the conference.

Asia Needs to Act on Road Crashes

“Crashes result in an unacceptable burden of deaths and serious injuries on the roads in all countries”, said Jack Short, Secretary General of the International Transport Forum, explaining the purpose of the 4th IRTAD Conference in Seoul on safety data collection and analysis. “In Asia over 2000 people die on the road every day, accounting for 60% of casualties at global level. It is essential that all governments in the region treat the issue as a major policy priority”.

Electric Vehicles are no Short-Term Solution: Improvements of Combustion Engines Needed and Feasible

“Electric vehicles are not a short-term solution for the challenges of climate change,” said the Secretary General of the International Transport Forum Jack Short at the opening day of the International Motor Show (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung – IAA) in Frankfurt. They are certainly on the way but even optimists think that they will account for less than 10% of sales by 2020. “So, 90% of new cars that year and a much larger share of the fleet will still use internal combustion engines.”
