It then compares this historical experience with recent measures announced to mitigate the current crisis.

Resist investment protectionism, countries meeting at OECD agree

Countries participating in a “Freedom of Investment” initiative, which together represent four fifths of the world economy, have pledged to resist discriminatory policies and new forms of protectionism towards investment in the context of the global economic crisis and to continue to monitor measures and commitments.

During his second official visit to the People's Republic of China, Angel Gurría launched the Chinese language translation of OECD's investment policy review of China which looks at Chinese government efforts to encourage responsible business conduct against the backdrop of recent regulatory changes and China's increasing outward investment.

“OECD and partner countries welcome investments from SWFs as a positive force for development and global financial stability”, Mr. Gurría said in Washington on 11 October. “Taken together, the OECD guidance for recipient countries and the Santiago Principles for SWFs provide the international community with a robust framework for promoting mutual trust and confidence and reaping the full benefits of SWFs for home and host countries.”

The 2nd OECD Southeast Asia Regional Forum considered a range of policy areas, one of which was investment policies. Government officials from ASEAN countries and investment experts gathered to discuss various efforts to create a more attractive investment climate in Southeast Asia. The OECD’s investment instruments and peer review methods were presented and well received by participants as they can help advance their own agenda of investment policy reforms.
