Defining effective policies in the area of corporate governance

The financial crisis has led to a strong demand for new regulation and for this to be implemented rapidly. To avoid excessive regulation, a new publication calls for increased use of Regulatory Impact Assessment in the area of corporate governance and gives a number of examples of how the technique has been applied to promote more efficient policy. Examples include both ex-ante and ex-post analysis, the approach to defining policy needs and the role of quantification.

First Meeting of the Task Force on Corporate Governance of Banks in Eurasia

The Eurasian Corporate Governance Roundtable established a task force to develop a policy options paper (“policy brief”) addressing corporate governance challenges shared by commercial banks in Eurasia. Based on some existing norms developed by the OECD or the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the policy brief is to be developed through active discussion within the Task Force that includes experts from Eurasian countries, OECD member countries and international organisations.  The Task Force has its meeting to discuss the draft policy brief in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 17 May 2007.

Meeting of the Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance in Singapore

The Roundtable comprises Asian policy-makers, regulators and business leaders, as well as regional and international experts. The last meeting of the Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance was hosted by Singapore on 26-27 June 2007.

Sixth Meeting of the Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable, Lima, Peru

The Sixth Meeting of the Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable took place in Lima, Peru, on 20 - 21 September, 2005.  The Roundtable reviewed progress in implementing the recommendations of the Latin American White Paper on Corporate Governance, considered emerging practices in strengthening enforcement, and experience in improving board effectiveness.  Participants also exchanged experience regarding the relevance of the new OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises in the Latin American context.

Company Leaders Launch Latin American Corporate Governance Initiative

The Latin American Roundtable on Corporate Governance launched, on May 10th in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a new Companies Circle. This is an initiative led by companies who have adopted best practices of corporate governance. Its objectives are to bring together a group of Latin American companies who have adopted best corporate governance practices to provide private sector input into the work of the Roundtable; and to share with each other and the public their experiences putting the principles of good corporate governance into practice.
