The report is the result of a two-year work programme on the challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurship development in East Germany undertaken by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, through its Local Economic and Employment Development Programme (LEED), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS), Angelegenheiten der Neuen Länder department.

The compendium is part of the project on "Strengthening Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in East Germany"carried out by the OECD and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Land, Construction, Transport and Urban Affairs. The compendium is built of several themes of relevance to local entrepreneurship development in East Germany. It brings together recommendations, International learning models and good practice in East Germany.

This co-operative project between the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs and the OECD provides an opportunity for participants in East Germany to stand back and reflect on their overall options, needs and priorities and by facilitating an international exchange of information on innovations and best practices from a range of OECD Member countries.

Cet ouvrage (disponible uniquement en anglais) fait référence à la conférence du Forum des Villes et Régions sur le thème du financement privé et le développement économique, qui a eu lieu à Londres en juillet 2002. Il montre comment les autorités des villes et des régions peuvent optimiser le financement privé pour le développement économique. Des exemples pratiques d'Amérique du Nord et de l'Europe sont examinés et les questions de transfert d’expériences entre villes et régions sont discutées.

Sur le thème "Promouvoir l'entreprenariat et les PME innovantes dans une économie mondialisée", la conférence sera un jalon important du Processus de Bologne et de la mise en oeuvre de la Charte de Bologne sur les politiques à l'égard des PME adoptée par 50 pays, en juin 2000.

Sommet de l'Initiative Centrale Européenne (CEI), Varsovie, Pologne, 19-21 novembre 2003
Le Forum du Sommet Économique de la CEI est organisé en collaboration entre la BERD et la CEI en partenariat avec le Programme LEED.
