A Consensus Document on Compositional Considerations for New Varieties of Sugarcane (Saccharum ssp. hybrids), number 23 in the Series on Safety of Novel Foods and Feeds, is now available online.  It contains information on the key nutrients, anti-nutrients and toxicants of food and feed obtained from this grass crop.  Sugarcane is grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions in more than 100 countries and the sugar produced from it is commonly consumed all over the world.

These books should be of value to applicants for commercial uses of transgenic organisms (crops, trees, microorganisms), to regulators and risk assessors in national authorities, as well as the wider scientific community.
