Proposal for Classification and Labelling of Ozone Depleting Chemicals

In December 2004, the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the GHS requested that the OECD examine possibilities to develop classification criteria for ozone depleting substances in cooperation with the Conference of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol and develop first a detailed comparison of classification systems in countries/regions. The detailed comparison was submitted to the Sub-Committee in July 2006 and the Sub-Committee agreed that the work should continue and that it would consider any proposal or option in this respect for final decision.

Report on the Workshop on the Application of the GHS Classification Criteria to HPV chemicals, 5-6 July, Bern Switzerland

The OECD Workshop on the application of the GHS classification criteria to HPV chemicals was held in Bern (Switzerland) on 5-6 July 2007. The Workshop was a joint activity of the Task Force on Harmonization of Classification and Labelling and the Task Force on Existing Chemicals. It was prepared by a Steering Group including the members of the bureaus of the two Task Forces.

Proposal for Revision of GHS Chapter 4.1

In December 2002, the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (UN SCEGHS) requested the OECD to start a further “development of the classification scheme to accommodate chronic toxicity to aquatic organisms for assigning a chronic hazard category”. In December 2006, the Sub-Committee requested the submission of a proposal in 2007. This document is the proposal for revision of GHS Chapter 4.1.

This report presents a compilation of the responses received from the OECD countries to the questionnaire on preparation of GHS implementation, which was developed by the OECD and UNITAR/ILO. The Secretariat received responses for 27 out of 30 member countries: Canada, Japan, Australia, the European Commission (EC) on behalf of the 19 EU member countries, Norway, Switzerland, New Zealand, the United States and Korea. In addition, the responses from the EC are also relevant for the 8 other EU Member States, which are not OECD countries

OECD - UNITAR/ILO Questionnaire

An OECD - UNITAR/ILO questionnaire on preparation for GHS Implementation was sent to member countries on 20 July 2006.  A report on implementation by member countries is under development.

Report on Carcinogenicity Potency Estimation Methods

The mandate initially given by the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the GHS for the biennium 2003-2004 was to start examining methods for carcinogenicity potency estimation. In December 2004, the Sub-Committee agreed that the work should be completed in 2006, and a scientific issue paper should be submitted in 2005.
