This report presents the results of a joint OECD/EC seminar on the development of harmonised environmental indicators for pesticide risk. The seminar was held on 13 November 2006 in Bonn (Germany). The aims of this seminar were to: present the indicators developed in the framework of the EC-funded HAIR project (HArmonised environmental Indicators for pesticide Risk),discuss issues related to further developments, and consider ways of broadening the use of these indicators across OECD Member countries.

This study provides an insight on whether a systematic inclusion of releases and transfers from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in national PRTRs would improve the current knowledge of industrial pollution as a whole. The study concludes that in order to be able to cover the remaining releases and transfers from SMEs, diffuse sources should be included in PRTRs.

A Resolution on the Implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) was adopted by Council on 28 March 2008 and welcomed by Environment Ministers of OECD countries and major non-member economies at their meeting at OECD on the 28-29 April 2008.

Section 4.1.1 of the OECD Monograph Guidance Document has been revised to include text which specifies that Regulatory Authorities should not use the contents of a Monograph from another country as a basis for their regulatory decisions unless the data package upon which a particular Monograph was based has been provided to the Authority, or the owner of the data has granted permission for use of the summary evaluation in a Monograph in lieu of the data.

L’OCDE vient de mettre au point un instrument novateur, la Boîte à outils sur les applications des (Q)SAR, pour évaluer les propriétés dangereuses des produits chimiques en analysant leur structure moléculaire.

The OECD (Q)SAR Application Toolbox is a software application intended to be used by governments, the chemical industry and other stakeholders to fill gaps in (eco)toxicity data needed for assessing the hazards of chemicals. With this Toolbox, a user can fill data gaps by read-across and trend analysis, group chemicals into categories and gain access to a library of (Q)SAR models. It can be downloaded free of charge. En décembre 2004, le Sous-comité d’experts de l’Organisation des Nations-Unies sur le SGH a demandé que l’OCDE examine la possibilité de développer des critères de classification pour les substances qui appauvrissent la couche d’ozone, en coopération avec la Conférence des Parties au Protocol de Montréal, et de développer d’abord une comparaison détaillée des systèmes de classification existant dans les pays/régions. La comparaison détaillée a été soumise au Sous-comité en juillet 2006.
