The OECD Development Centre's Head of regional desks Kiichiro Fukasaku participated as a lead discussant to Session II "Current Pledges to Curb Emissions and National Strategies for Promoting Green Growth" of the two-day International Workshop on "Climate Change and Green Asia". This session aimed to discuss the strategies being formulated/implemented by emerging economies, the economic and developmental benefits of such strategies as well as to identify potential areas for policy intervention.

Overall, the strong recovery experienced in ASEAN economies in the first half of 2010 is gradually losing momentum. Nonetheless, the picture varies across Southeast Asian countries. A solid recovery is ongoing in the Philippines driven by strong exports and improving business sentiment, while activity appears to be slowing down in Malaysia and Singapore on the basis of both leading and coincident indicators. Activity growth is also showing slight signs of slowing in Indonesia. The outlook for the Thai economy is relatively stable supported by solid production activities.

On 11 March 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey the Experts’ meeting brought together consultant authors from the six countries targeted for special Development Centre Working Paper reports under Phase one of the Black Sea and Central Asia Initiative: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine in order to discuss work in progress with the Paris combined team and a number of local experts.

Uzbekistan harmonious generation briefing

At the invitation of H.E. Mr. Bahromjon ALOEV, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan in France, the BSCAI team participated in a Briefing on “The year of harmonious generation and demographic, social, economic transformations in Uzbekistan” on 29 March 2010 at the Uzbekistan Embassy. The team also met with visiting Uzbek parliamentarians.
