This working paper provides an overview of recent developments in investment treaty practice with regard to the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs). The analysis departs from traditional IPR studies developed almost exclusively in the context of the WTO-TRIPS Agreement. This study aims to clarify the extent to which and how international investment agreements, including Regional Trade Agreements with an investment chapter, increase the scope of IPR protection beyond TRIPS minimum standards.

The Investment Committee has adopted the key findings of the OECD report on "The interaction between investment and services chapters in selected Regional Trade Agreements" which addresses the implications of this interaction for levels of investment protection and liberalisation.

Ce Symposium, organisé conjointement par le CIRDI, l’OCDE et la CNUCED, a permis à des acteurs non-gouvernementaux d’échanger leurs points de vue sur de nouvelles questions qui se posent aux autorités nationales et à leurs organisations internationales en matière d’arbitrage de différends relatifs aux investissements et d’examiner l’ordre du jour et de progresser vers les objectifs que les pays développés et en développement parties à des accords d’investissement ont en commun.
