This paper discusses responses to the current financial and economic crisis by regulators, supervisors and policy makers in the area of private pensions. It focuses on the role of private pensions in complementing public systems and on how to design pension systems to introduce some degree of protection, improve sustainability of funding, enhance management and supervision, and step up disclosure and communication.

It then compares this historical experience with recent measures announced to mitigate the current crisis.

Dans le cadre de sa réponse stratégique face à la crise, l’OCDE recherche la contribution des parties prenantes concernées pour développer des recommandations afin de remédier à ces défaillances du gouvernement d’entreprise liées à la crise financière.

OECD launches the investment policy review of China

During his second official visit to the People's Republic of China, Angel Gurría launched the Chinese language translation of OECD's investment policy review of China which looks at Chinese government efforts to encourage responsible business conduct against the backdrop of recent regulatory changes and China's increasing outward investment.

Public consultation on the draft IAIS-OECD Issues Paper on Insurer Corporate Governance

The OECD and the IAIS invited public comments on a draft issues paper on the governance of insurers. The purpose of the issues paper is to provide background on insurer corporate governance, describe practices and identify possible regulatory and supervisory issues in relation to the governance of insurers.

Private Sector Participation in Water Infrastructure

Timed for release during the 5th World Water Forum in Istanbul, the OECD has developed practical guidance for governments wishing to engage the private sector in water infrastructure. The guidance provides a coherent catalogue of policy directions in the form of a checklist for public action.

OECD seminar on the payout phase of pensions, annuities and financial Markets

Representatives from OECD governments, academia and private sector discussed proposals to support private pension systems, and in particular, improve the management of risks in the retirement stage of individual account (defined contribution, DC) pension systems. Participants also discussed the impact of the financial crisis, and longer term issues affecting the sector such as increasing life expectancy.

Participants discussed concrete initiatives for engaging in responsible business conduct and strengthening partnerships in the MENA region, focusing particularly on fighting corruption, education and employment standards, environment and health.

MENA-OECD Working Group on Corporate Governance
