In a globally competitive, knowledge-based economy, having skills is no longer just the advantage but a necessity. While many countries have developed strategies to improve the skills level of their citizens, their success in implementing them varies widely.To help them, the OECD is preparing a Skills Strategy with the aim of fostering a cross-government, peer-learning approach towards improving the supply of, and anticipating the demand for, skilled workers.

State of Penang: Review of Higher Education in Regional and City Development is now available

Strong dependence on multinational corporations has brough growth and development but also an underdeveloped local industry, limited indigenous innovation and a lack of dynamic new entrepreneurship. This report explores how Penang can move up in the value chain, away from manufacturing to knowledge-driven economy.

Consumer protection: OECD PISA Financial Literacy Study

22/02/2011 - The OECD is testing 15 year-olds on their knowledge of personal finances and ability to apply it to their financial problems. This is the first large-scale international study to assess the financial literacy of young people. The results will be available in the next PISA study, to be released in 2013.

OECD Thematic Review on Migrant Education - Second Meeting of National Experts, Paris

Chief executive officers of the education ministries of OECD member countries met in Seoul, Korea on 2-3 September 2008 to discuss Addressing the Challenges of Policy Implementation in Education. They were joined by education CEOs from several non-member countries and representatives of international organisations. The meeting, chaired by Woo Hyung-Sik, Korea’s Vice Minister of Education, Science and Technology, generated insights into effective strategies to implement education policy reform and explored the processes of policy formulation and implementation.
