In his remarks, Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary-General, to the National Forum on Energy, Environment and Climate Change Policy, affirmed that we need to start producing, transporting, consuming, regulating, governing, even thinking, differently; starting today. Climate change means cultural change.

This policy guidance provides essential information and advice on mainstreaming climate change adaptation into development. The objectives are to: i) promote understanding of the implications of climate change on development practice and the need to mainstream adaptation in development co-operation; ii) identify appropriate approaches for integrating adaptation into development policies at national, sectoral, project levels and at local contexts; and iii) identify practical ways for donors to support developing country partners in reducing their vulnerability to climate change.

Ce document d’orientation vise à donner des informations et des conseils sur la façon de prendre en compte l'adaptation au changement climatique dans la coopération au développement. Ses objectifs sont : i) expliciter les incidences du changement climatique sur les pratiques de développement ; ii) recenser les approches pour intégrer l'adaptation dans les politiques de développement aux niveaux national, sectoriel, des projets, et local ; et iii) indiquer comment les donneurs peuvent soutenir les efforts des pays partenaires pour réduire leur vulnérabilité au changement climatique.

This document elaborates on a procedure how data in a validated form can be gathered by companies who need estimating the exposure of users of biocidal products for regulatory purposes. The validity of data is a substantial requirement in order to be able to adequately evaluate risks for human health through the use of biocidal products or as a consequence thereof.

It provides guidance with respect to the collection, preparation, quality, and reporting of emission data to be submitted to enable an environmental risk assessment of emissions of wood preservatives from treated wood to be performed.

The OECD convened an expert workshop on Innovative International Financing for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable use on July 2nd, 2009. The workshop was attended by more than 40 participants, including delegates from the OECD Working Group on the Economic Aspects of Biodiversity (WGEAB), developing country participants (including Brazil, Peru and Uganda), experts from the CBD, IUCN, UNEP and the GEF, as well as other NGOs and the private sector.

A first set of Frequently Asked Questions about the OECD QSAR Application Toolbox is now available. The (Q)SAR Application Toolbox is a software application intended to be used by governments, industry and other stakeholders to fill gaps in (eco)toxicity data needed for assessing the hazards of chemicals. The questions address a number of topics such as regulatory acceptance, content and quality of databases, contribution from stakeholders as well as installation and troubleshooting.

The OECD, in co-operation with the Finnish Ministry for the Environment, organised a workshop on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and Private Investment. The main purpose of the workshop was to improve understanding on how to promote private investment that contributes to the implementation of MEAs and thus to the broader objective of sustainable development. It explored business opportunities under MEAs and new ways to engage business in MEA implementation.

Responding to growing worldwide interest in developing and applying environmental compliance and enforcement indicators, the OECD and the INECE organised, on 3rd and 4th November, 2003 in Paris, a workshop which assisted enforcement agencies in designing enforcement and compliance indicators and using them for agencies’ performance assessment.
