There is fear that the current economic crisis might overshadow environmental concerns. A new OECD publication, Costs of Inaction on Key Environmental Challenges, shows that  not responding adequately to these challenges can be expensive.

Il est à craindre que la crise économique actuelle ne relègue à l’arrière-plan les préoccupations environnementales. Mais peut-on se permettre de retarder la prise en charge de ces problèmes d’environnement ? Une nouvelle publication de l'OCDE intitulée Coûts de l'inaction sur des défis environnementaux importants montre que l’absence d’une réponse à la hauteur de ces défis peut coûter cher.

Inadequate environmental policies can be a significant brake on economic productivity and growth. Countries today face numerous environmental challenges, such as climate change, air and water pollution, natural resource management, natural disasters and industrial accidents.

Inventaire des Initiatives Internationales Liées à la Gestion Durable des Matières

Cette étude présente un résumé des initiatives internationales pertinentes concernant la gestion durable des matières, couvrant les organisations mondiales et régionales, les associations commerciales et industrielles, les ONG environnementales et les organismes de recherche. Au total, 67 initiatives ont été identifiées au niveau international. Elles se concentrent sur la réduction des impacts sur l'environnement à travers le cycle de vie des matières ayant un rapport avec les politiques liées aux déchets et matières, tout en tenant compte de l'efficacité économique et de l’équité sociale.

Etude des Méthodologies Pertinentes à l'Approche OCDE sur la Gestion Durable des Matières

Cette étude présente 10 méthodologies utilisées directement ou indirectement pour évaluer l'utilisation des matières en fonction de ses impacts potentiels sur l'environnement, des avantages pour la société et de la valeur pour l'économie. Elle vise à favoriser la compréhension des points forts et des limites de ces méthodologies pour encourager une gestion plus durable des matières, présentant chaque méthodologie en fonction de son type et de sa portée, des points dans la partie du cycle de vie que cette étude couvre et des liens possibles vers d'autres méthodologies.

Mayors, Ministers call for Joint Action on Climate Change at OECD Conference

A major international conference on "Competitive Cities and Climate Change″ organised by OECD concluded today in Milan. It underlined the central and critical role to be played by cities in successfully addressing the major global challenge of climate change.

OECD Workshop on Environmental Innovation and Global Markets - Berlin, Germany

The OECD is currently exploring the links between environmental innovation and globalisation. The main output of this project will be a report, “Environmental Innovation and Global Markets”, based on interviews with companies and government officials in 8 OECD countries (Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, United States) and in China.  This workshop provides a forum for that dialogue. The outcomes of the workshop discussions will serve to finalise the policy recommendations in the report.

8th Annual Meeting of the EECCA Regulatory Environmental Programme Implementation Network

The eighth annual meeting of the Regulatory Environmental Programme Implementation Network (REPIN) in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) was held in Tbilisi on 12-13th June 2006. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia, and organised by the OECD/EAP Task Force Secretariat. The meeting gathered about 60 participants.
