The Future of Families to 2030

This January 2012 publication aims to identify and examine trends in household and family structures over the next two decades and to explore the implications of those trends for key policy areas. This was by nature an experimental project, since very little international work had been conducted at the time on the theme of the future of families. It was an opportunity to apply foresight tools to a new, relatively unexplored subject area. Read more about it, and get a synthesis of key findings.

Main Findings - Strategic Transport Infrastructure Needs to 2030

This report looks at whether international gateway ports and airports and their inland transport connections are adequate to meet future demand and proposes a set of policy options to enhance their contribution to economic and social development. Most of the gateway and corridor infrastructure currently in place could not handle a 50% increase, let alone a doubling or tripling of passengers and freight in 20 years. Many gateways need greater capacity to meet the projected increasing demand from 2010 to 2030. Greater inland transport capacity is needed to match additional gateway capacity.

Atelier sur les contributions socio-économiques des applications spatiales

Le groupe de travail du Forum Espace s'est réuni le 25 septembre 2010 sur le thème «Valorisation de la contribution socio-économique des applications spatiales: "techniques et leçons apprises". Cet atelier original contribue à l'analyse du Secrétariat de l'OCDE sur le potentiel socio-économique tirés des applications spatiales. Trente participants provenant d'agences publiques, du secteur privé, d'universités et de délégations nationales ont bénéficié de présentations par des experts invités (P. Cohendet, I. Leveson, M. Macauley, G. Graziola, H. Hertzfeld) et du Secrétariat.

Les inondations sont les catastrophes naturelles les plus coûteuses en France. Cette étude examine les politiques de gestion des risques dans le bassin de la Loire en se penchant sur : la mise en place d’une gouvernance concertée, l'adoption de politiques non-structurelles pour intégrér l'utilisation des digues et des barrages, le recours aux nouvelles technologies dans les procédures de pré-alerte et les efforts visant à réduire l'écart entre le degré de risque d'inondation et la perception que la population a de celui-ci. De tous les pays européens, l'Italie est celui qui est confronté au plus grand nombre de risques naturels. Parmi les questions traitées dans cette étude figurent l'évaluation et le monitorage des risques, les outils de communication, la coordination des ressources dans la gestion des risques à grande échelle, la mise en œuvre de politiques de prévention et de stratégies de reprise après sinistre. Economists and practioners examine space sector's statistics

The 4th meeting of the Technical Committee on the Space Economy was held on 23 March 2010 in Paris, during the traditional spring meetings of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). This group gathers practioners and experts, including the OECD / IFP, twice a year to exchange on their national practices and lessons learned concerning space sector's economic data. They also discussed the first ever session entitled "the Space Economy in Figures" to take place in Prague during the International Astronautical Congress, in September 2010.

Experts discussed the role of space technologies in food security (Nov. 2009)

As part of an ongoing IFP case study on the societal role of space technologies, some 25 experts from international organisations and the space community discussed trends and challenges in global food supplies, and examined the potential role of space applications (e.g. imagery for agriculture monitoring, use of GPS supporting fisheries and sea transport). Les déterminants des flux migratoires internationaux sont complexes et difficiles à prévoir. Cet ouvrage examine les dynamiques socioéconomiques et environnementales qui attirent des migrants dans les pays OCDE et qui les poussent à quitter leurs pays d’origine ou à y rester. Par l’analyse des facteurs d’attraction et de rejet et de scénarios sur les migrations, ce volume pose des questions essentielles: quels seront les principaux déterminants des flux migratoires? quels pays de l’OCDE seront les plus attrayants? À quelles problématiques migratoires seront confrontés les décideurs d’ici 2030?

Rencontre entre économistes et spécialistes sur les statistiques du secteur spatial (mars 2010)
La 4ème réunion du Comité Technique sur "l'économie spatiale" (Technical Committee on the Space Economy) a eu lieu le 23 mars 2010 à Paris, dans le cadre des rencontres de printemps de la Fédération Astronautique Internationale (IAF). Ce comité réunit biannuellement des économistes et experts du secteur, dont le Programme de l'OCDE sur l'Avenir, pour comparer des pratiques nationales et privées dans la collecte de données économiques du secteur spatial. Une session sur ce thème aura lieu lors du grand congrès annuel de l'IAF à Prague, fin septembre 2010.

Après avoir mené à terme son projet sur les besoins d’infrastructures à l’horizon 2030 (2005-2007) portant sur les télécommunications, l’eau, l'électricité et les transports de surface, le Programme de l’OCDE sur l’avenir lance à présent une étude sur les ports, aéroports et autres grandes infrastructures intracontinentales et intercontinentales. La première réunion du Groupe de Pilotage aura lieu le 19 Novembre à Paris et sera suivie le 20 Novembre par un atelier centré sur le financement des infrastructures dans l'avenir. "Space Technologies and Climate Change" presented at the United Nations (Feb. 2009)
The OECD IFP was invited to present its work on the global Earth observation infrastructure (summarised in the publication “Space Technologies and Climate Change”) at the IAF Symposium on "The role of Earth observation satellites in promoting understanding and addressing climate change concerns". The event was held at the United Nations in Vienna, during the forty-sixth session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. The Future of International Migration: Second preparatory meeting of the organising group

The secretariat was pleased to welcome the organising group for a second preparatory meeting of The Future of International Migration on 7-8 July 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the work carried out by the IFP secretariat to date, especially the commissioned papers and the indicators that were developed. Moreover, the participants were to agree on the shape and content of the December workshop and build four future scenarios for international migration in small break-out groups. The scenarios will be published in early 2009. The workshop will take place 1-2 December 2008.

L'Avenir des Migrations Internationales vers les Pays de l'OCDE. Un atelier d’experts centré sur les principaux facteurs qui façonneront le paysage migratoire mondial des 20 à 25 prochaines années.

L’objectif de l’atelier est de permettre aux décideurs de mieux appréhender la complexité et l’ampleur des migrations de demain, de manière à ce qu’ils puissent gérer les implications économiques et sociales d’un flux incessant qui présente à la fois des opportunités et des risques. L’atelier se penchera sur sur les principaux facteurs qui sont à l’origine de l’augmentation croissante des flux migratoires depuis les pays non membres vers les pays membres de l’OCDE.

Bioeconomy to 2030: Fourth meeting of the Steering Group
