Peer-to-peer visit of senior Tunisian officials to Switzerland: Exchange on best practices in multilingual legal drafting & the training of jurilinguists

A peer-to-peer study visit of senior Tunisian delegates was organised in the framework of the GfD Working Group IV on Regulatory Reform to Switzerland from 5-7 November 2006. This mission is part of a regional capacity-building project for jurilinguists and multilingual legal drafters in the Middle East and North Africa.

Regional Capacity-Building Seminar on Multilingual Legal Drafting and the Training of Jurilinguists

The key objective of this regional capacity-building seminar that took place in Tunis on 27 November 2006, was to support legal drafters from Arab countries in improving legal clarity and reducing regulatory complexity when they draft legal texts in Arabic, English and French.

Regional capacity building seminar on Pay and Grading Reforms in Arab Countries

A regional capacity building seminar on public sector pay and grading reform in Arab countries was held in Amman, Jordan, on 20-21 September 2006 in the framework of GfD Working Group 1 on Civil Service and Integrity. Delegates from 13 Arab countries and OECD countries engaged in policy dialogue on pay strategies for improving public sector performance.

GfD Initiative promotes Capacity-Building in Arab Countries

One of GfD Initiative’s aims is to support institutional progress in the participating Arab countries. In view of attaining this objective, several high-level capacity-building seminars have been held recently in the participating chair and co-chair countries.

MENA Governance Steering Group Meeting at Ministerial Level

The second Steering Group meeting at ministerial level was held in Sharm El Sheikh on 19 and 20 May 2006, back-to-back with the World Economic Forum on the Middle East. Participants from nine Arab and fourteen OECD countries reconfirmed their commitment to the GfD Initiative and defined the directions for future implementation.

GfD Stocktaking and Action Planning Missions

In preparation of the GfD Steering Group Meeting at Ministerial Level in May 2006 and the formulation of Country Action Plans, the OECD Secretariat is undertaking missions to several Arab countries to take stock of national policy priorities, reform challenges and barriers in the policy areas of Civil Service and Integrity, E-Government and Administrative Simplification, Governance of Public Finance and Regulatory Reform.

GfD Coordinators' Meeting held at the OECD headquarters in Paris

On the invitation of the OECD, the national coordinators of the six chairing Arab countries met with representatives from OECD countries involved in the GfD Initiative, as well as with representatives from the GfD project partner UNDP on 1 March 2006 at the OECD headquarters in Paris.

Co-ordination meeting for Case Studies (GfD Working Group I) held in Rabat

The co-ordination meeting for Case Studies on Civil Service and Integrity was hosted by Morocco on 8-9 December 2005. It brought together representatives from Morocco, Bahrain, Jordan and Tunisia in order to co-ordinate the scope and methodology of the case studies these countries are undertaking.

High-Level-Seminar on E-procurement and Simplification held in Naples

A High Level Seminar on E-procurement and Simplification was held in Naples in the framework of the activities of the GfD Working Group II on E-Government and Administrative Simplification on 30-31 January 2006. It brought together e-procurement experts from Arab and invited OECD countries to share strategic advice and practical know-how on implementing e-procurement systems and simplifying administrative processes.
