This working group gathers together the most high ranking e-government officials in MENA countries and invites government experts from OECD countries to discuss key policy issues on the e-government agendas of MENA and OECD countries. The members of the working group also design a plan of activities and provide directions and support for their implementation.

Experts from MENA and OECD countries met in Paris to discuss concrete means for improving gender diversity and equality in government and business. Topics of debate included attracting talent to the public and private sectors, the pros and cons of quotas, and improving women’s access to government and business services.

High level delegates from 17 OECD and MENA countries, as well as several international organisations, participated in this regional workshop which brought together policy-makers, experts and researchers to debate on public policy evaluation and to define common actions to meet the public governance challenges faced by the MENA countries.

MENA and OECD countries, in partnership with their business communities and citizens, are working together to put the region's economy back on a strong growth and employment track.

This meeting offered the opportunity for policy-makers, experts, and representatives from civil society and media to debate on governance for economic recovery and sustainable growth, taking into consideration the needs of citizens, programmes of the public administration, the demands of society, and the environmental challenges.

Regulatory management and administrative simplification issues are core public policy topics for OECD and MENA countries, especially taking into consideration the current global situation, the financial and economic crisis and the redefinition of the role of the state. This meeting was an opportunity to deepen common understanding of regulatory management and reform across OECD and Arab countries and provided a forum in which to exchange experiences, ideas and good practices.

The improvement of public services for citizens and businesses is one of the priorities of MENA-OECD Governance Initiative. This objective is also part of the OECD’s global work on the best way to mobilise actors and capacities at every level to encourage efficient, equitable and sustainable public services. This conference concentrated on three aspects of water governance: the coherence of public water policies, the modalities of these policies’ implementation, and the establishment of partnerships with the private sector, which include the participation of citizens and civil society.

The seminar focused on identifying and discussing approaches and methods to improve e-government service take-up, an issue currently at the heart of OECD and non-OECD countries’ e-government agenda.

The meeting explored how countries respond to the effects of the global economic crisis with regard to e-government development and implementation. Participants discussed e-government and administrative simplification from their national experiences.

|
New HR challenges have stemmed from the economic crisis and the question of how to provide strategic policy responses dealing with short-term and long-term consequences were examined during this working group meeting.
