Workshop on Iraqi National Investment Reform

The meeting, held from the 22nd to the 24th of January 2008 in Amman, was the second in a series of activities undertaken by the MENA-OECD Investment Programme within the framework of its work plan for the Republic of Iraq. The OECD’s engagement with Iraq is the result of a request for assistance by the Iraqi Government in the framework of the International Compact for Iraq. Through the resulting work plan the OECD aims to offer to the Iraqi Government practical and co-operative assistance in the areas of investment and anti-corruption policy.

Third Steering Group Meeting at Ministerial Level of the Good Governance for Development (GfD) in Arab Countries Initiative in Cairo, Egypt

The Third Steering Group Meeting at Ministerial Level of the Good Governance for Development (GfD) in Arab Countries Initiative took place in Cairo, Egypt on 29 November 2007. This high-level meeting brought together high level representatives from international organisations, 11 Arab and 24 OECD countries. The meeting provided a forum for ministerial delegations from Arab countries to present progress made with their national public governance reform agendas. It has been a key milestone for carrying forward the GfD Initiative.

Training Seminar on Foreign Direct Investment Statistics, Bahrain

Organised by the MENA-OECD Task Force on Foreign Direct Investment Statistics for Policy Making,in collaboration with the Bahrain Economic Development Board and the MENA Investment Centre in Manama, this workshop presented the revised methodology for foreign direct investment statistics to FDI experts in the Gulf region.

MENA-OECD Women Business Leaders Forum and Business Forum

In his opening remarks to the MENA-OECD Women Business Leaders Forum and Business Forum, Mr. Gurría underlined the potential of most MENA countries to achieve a vigorous economic expansion with the active participation in economic activities of business leaders, notably women, whose role should keep on increasing as they have been the main driving force of growth in OECD countries. He also noted that the development of the private sector as a whole, with the help of business organisations and investment promotion agencies, is a vital factor for growth in MENA countries.
