ASEAN Recovery Moderates according to the Asian Business Cycles Quaterly

Overall, the strong recovery experienced in ASEAN economies in the first half of 2010 is gradually losing momentum. Nonetheless, the picture varies across Southeast Asian countries. A solid recovery is ongoing in the Philippines driven by strong exports and improving business sentiment, while activity appears to be slowing down in Malaysia and Singapore on the basis of both leading and coincident indicators. Activity growth is also showing slight signs of slowing in Indonesia. The outlook for the Thai economy is relatively stable supported by solid production activities.

Mutual Evaluation of Argentina

The full report of FATF’s third mutual evaluation of Argentina (and second joint FATF/GAFISUD evaluation of Argentina) is now available for download, the executive summary was published on 5 November 2010.  Since the last evaluation, finalised in June 2004, Argentina has not made adequate progress in addressing a number of deficiencies identified at that time, and the legal and preventive AML/CFT measures that are in place lack effectiveness.

According to latest data compiled by the International Transport Forum on global freight flows since the financial crisis of 2008 recovery is uncertain and weak: in road, rail and sea transport, current freight levels are below pre-crisis volumes - only air cargo has recovered from the strong crisis-induced drop that hit freight volumes in all modes.

2nd OECD-Southeast Asia Regional Forum: Enhancing Competitiveness through Regional Integration

Government officials from ASEAN countries and investment experts gathered to discuss various efforts to create a more attractive investment climate in Southeast Asia. The OECD’s investment instruments and peer review methods were presented and well received by participants as they can help advance their own agenda of investment policy reforms.

First Steering Group Meeting of the National Policy Dialogue on Water-Related Issues in Ukraine

These outputs have been developed in the framework of the EAP Task Force and supported by a TACIS grant.

This meeting took place on 11-12 June 2009 in Chisinau, Moldova. The Network was established back in 1999 and brings together environmental experts from Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia (EECCA).

The discussions also addressed the implications of the financial crisis.
