OECD Experts endorse Czech proposal to ensure more equitable access to tertiary education, but argue for a different approach to strengthening accountability of institutions.

A team of OECD experts endorsed proposals in the Czech Republic Government’s White Paper on Tertiary Education to impose tertiary fees in tandem with  a system of study grants, student loans, and targeted means-tested assistance in order put the long-term financing of tertiary education on a more sustainable basis, while also making access more equitable.  The experts recognised that ‘there is a low probability of a significant increase in state spending for tertiary education in the near or moderate-term future” and thus saw the need for greater reliance on household spending.

Exploring Quality Teaching within institutions

The final version of the self-evaluation report for the Southern Arizona region is now available. The report was prepared with the support of the Lumina Foundation for Education in collaboration with a number of higher education institutions in the region.

The Amsterdam and Rotterdam self-evaluation reports are now available

The final versions of the Self-evaluation reports for the review visits to the City regions of Amsterdam and Rotterdam are now available. These extensive reports were prepared by the SEO Economisch Onderzoek, Amsterdam and the Economic Development Board Rotterdam (EDBR) respectively in collaboration with a number of higher education institutions.

The Bío Bío self-evaluation report is now available

The Self-evaluation Report of the Bio Bio  Region is now available. The extensive report reflects the joint efforts of HEIs and stakeholders. The report was drafted by a team of researchers from three universities in the Bío Bío region led by Dr. Jorge DRESDNER (Universidad de Concepción).

G20: International standards on structural policies key to emerging from crisis

Welcoming the adoption of the Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth by G20 leaders gathered in Pittsburgh for the G20 summit, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría said new sources of jobs and growth needed for the global economy to effect a sustained recovery, will only emerge if the right structural policies are adopted by the world’s leading global economies.
