The Self-Evaluation Report of the Bío Bío Region is now available on our website. The extensive report reflects the joint efforts of HEIs and stakeholders. The report was drafted by a team of researchers from three universities in the Bío Bío region led by Dr. Jorge DRESDNER (Universidad de Concepción).

G20: International standards on structural policies key to emerging from crisis

Welcoming the adoption of the Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth by G20 leaders gathered in Pittsburgh for the G20 summit, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría said new sources of jobs and growth needed for the global economy to effect a sustained recovery, will only emerge if the right structural policies are adopted by the world’s leading global economies.

HEIs and regional development agencies in Paris

OECD roundtable for cities and regions on 10-11 September brought together almost 100 representatives from cities and regions involved in the second round of Reviews of Higher Education in Regional and City Development.
It provided an opportunity to highlight the experiences of the Bio Bio Region in Chile which was the first region to undergo the review in August 2009. In addition, 5 new regions – Free State in South Africa, Valparaiso in Chile, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, New England in the US and Oulu in Finland – introduced themselves.  To view the presentations see here .

Call for Contributions - Quality of Teaching in Higher Education

The OECD Programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education (IMHE) is looking for contributions for their What Works Conference on Quality of Teaching in Higher Education, 12-13 October 2009. This is a valuable opportunity for researchers, practitioners, academic leaders, students, educational developers, quality units and heads of services to showcase their experiences and research in the field. Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso joins IMHE

We are pleased to announce that the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso has been accepted as a member of IMHE, becoming the first university from Chile to join the Programme. Chile is one of the accession candidate countries and participates in 17 committees and working groups within the OECD. Rector Alfonso Muga visited the OECD and IMHE last May, together with a high level Chilean delegation. The University expects to benefit from IMHE membership through enhanced collaboration with universities worldwide and access and exposure to international expertise.

International conference on Higher Education at a Time of Crisis: Challenges and Opportunities, 29-30 June

OECD’s Programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education announces plans for a conference on the impact of the economic crisis on higher education institutions on 29-30 June hosted by the Copenhagen Business School  in co-operation with OECD/IMHE.

The conference will debate questions of supply and demand, costs and income in higher education and will analyse the role and responsibility of higher education institutions and how to transform these challenges into opportunities.

Launch meeting for the Review of National Policies for Education: South Africa, 6 October 2008, Pretoria

Informal Meeting of OECD Education Ministers on Evaluating the Outcomes of Higher Education

An  informal meeting of OECD Education Ministers hosted by the Ministry of Education Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) will be held in Tokyo, Japan, on the 11-12 January 2008.  Ministers will discuss: society’s expectations on the outcomes of higher education; how to apply evaluation to policy and practice and assess higher education learning outcomes; and share national experiences with evaluating the quality of higher education outcomes.

Roundtable on Developing University-Industry Technology Transfer

The OECD has been engaged, since 2002, in a series of activities to promote research in Russian universities and to improve the management of intellectual property in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science. The 2006 meeting will take place on 12-13 October in Tomsk and will specifically address exchanges of successful practices between Russian universities and OECD member country universities.
