Consumer protection: OECD PISA Financial Literacy Study

22/02/2011 - The OECD is testing 15 year-olds on their knowledge of personal finances and ability to apply it to their financial problems. This is the first large-scale international study to assess the financial literacy of young people. The results will be available in the next PISA study, to be released in 2013.

The main purpose of the meeting is to discuss financing ECEC services, in particular: • collecting data on costs and financing; • reviewing outcomes of investment in early childhood education and care; and • designing effective funding strategies to increase ECEC financing, improve efficiency and ensure equity and quality of child outcomes. Countries are invited to share recent policy developments and emerging findings from their own experiences and national research.

The topic is “Pursuing Professional Development and Attaining Program Management and Leadership Quality in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC)”. The seminar will be co-hosted by the University of Tokyo, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the OECD.

The first results from the OECD Teaching and Learning International survey (TALIS) will be released at an international press conference in Brussels at 11am (CET) on 16 June 2009. In recognition of the collaborative work on TALIS with the European Commission, the press conference is a joint event between the OECD and the European Commission.

This event drew on the networks of education officials and experts established since 1991 through the Directorate for Education’s Programme for Co-operation with non OECD Economies.
