This document is intended to provide guidance to applicants wishing to have particular active substances approved or wood preservative products registered in OECD countries. It provides guidance with respect to the collection, preparation, quality, and reporting of emission data to be submitted to enable an environmental risk assessment of emissions of wood preservatives from treated wood to be performed.

The purpose of the workshop was to discuss and exchange experiences and views on: (i) existing financing gaps and the need for an international financing mechanism for biodiversity; (ii) how to scale-up existing financing for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use; (iii) how to enhance the cost-effectiveness of biodiversity financing, including via targeting; and (iv) lessons learned and how to move forward.

A first set of Frequently Asked Questions about the OECD QSAR Application Toolbox is now available. The (Q)SAR Application Toolbox is a software application intended to be used by governments, industry and other stakeholders to fill gaps in (eco)toxicity data needed for assessing the hazards of chemicals. The questions address a number of topics such as regulatory acceptance, content and quality of databases, contribution from stakeholders as well as installation and troubleshooting.

This report is a contribution to the OECD Environment Directorate's work on environmental policy and technological innovation (www.oecd.org/environment/innovation). It summarises recent progress in the development of indicators of innovation and transfer in environmentally sound technologies (EST). A number of alternative measures are discussed, and the methodology for the development of indicators based on patent data is presented.

Next Training Course on GLP, October 2009, Switzerland

The 9th OECD Training Course for GLP Inspectors will be held in Basel, Switzerland, on 4-9 October 2009. This basic course will cover all aspects of principles, development and implementation of Good Laboratory Practice, with emphasis on on-site inspections for evaluating GLP compliance. Registration to the Course, made through the National GLP Monitoring Authorities, are now CLOSED. The 10th Training Course will be hosted by Israel in the course of 2011.

This report offers a comprehensive analysis of how governments promote, monitor and enforce compliance with environmental laws and regulations. It compares the environmental compliance assurance systems of six OECD countries – Finland, France, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States – as well as those of China and Russia. The report examines the strategies and instruments that governments use to ensure compliance with industrial pollution prevention and control regulations, identifies good practices and highlights the key international trends.

Responding to growing worldwide interest in developing and applying environmental compliance and enforcement indicators, the OECD and the INECE organised, on 3rd and 4th November, 2003 in Paris, a workshop which assisted enforcement agencies in designing enforcement and compliance indicators and using them for agencies’ performance assessment.
