OECD Published Pov and LRTP Screening Tool

OECD published the "Pov and LRTP Screening Tool" which has been developed with the aim of using multimedia models for estimating overall persistence (Pov) and long-range transport potential (LRTP) of organic chemicals at a screening level in the context of PBTs/POPs assessments. The Tool calculates metrics of Pov and LRTP from a multimedia chemical fate model, and provides a graphical presentation of the results.

International Transport Forum on The Challenge of Climate Change releases Key Messages

The first 2008 International Transport Forum on "Transport and Energy: the Challenge of Climate Change" was held in Leipzig from 28 – 30 May.  Almost 900 participants from all 51 International Transport Forum Member Countries, Observers and India came to Leipzig for the Forum. More than 100 journalists from 12 countries covered the event.

Ministers of Transport from the Forum and OECD Member Countries also met and issued a set of Key Messages on Transport and Climate Change.

OECD-UNEP Conference on Resource Efficiency

The conference explored how improved resource efficiency can reduce negative environmental impacts of resource exploitation, transportation, use and disposal, while at the same time securing adequate supplies of materials to sustain economic growth. It focussed on economic efficiency and environmental effectiveness of resource use, as well as the related development and governance aspects.

 

Meeting of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and the Environment Policy Committee (EPOC) at Ministerial Level

Economic growth and development are intricately linked to the sound management of environmental resources. It is the poorest countries and the poorest people who rely most heavily on environmental resources, and are therefore most affected by their degradation. This Ministerial meeting provided a timely opportunity to discuss the two-way relationship between poverty and environmental degradation and the scope for win-win approaches to address them.
