Arab and OECD countries are launching new initiatives to promote investment in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, including a women business leaders' forum and a landmark "MENA 500 Companies" publication presenting the region's leading commercial groups, as part of an ongoing drive to boost economic growth through their MENA-OECD Investment Programme.

The compendium is part of the project on "Strengthening Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in East Germany"carried out by the OECD and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Land, Construction, Transport and Urban Affairs. The compendium is built of several themes of relevance to local entrepreneurship development in East Germany. It brings together recommendations, International learning models and good practice in East Germany.

More and more OECD governments are giving firms tax breaks to drive innovation while cutting their direct spending on business research and development (R&D), and are also encouraging public research organisations to commercialise their inventions, according to a new OECD report.

The Latin American Roundtable on Corporate Governance reviewed institutional investors’ experience and their influence on corporate governance when it met on 10-11 October, 2007 in Colombia. Finding some promising practice but significant shortcomings, they agreed to develop White Paper recommendations to encourage more engaged and informed ownership. The Roundtable also reviewed experience with voluntary corporate governance codes.

On 11 July 2007, Egypt became the first Arab and first African country to sign the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises. This marks a new stage in Egypt's drive to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI). A series of policy reforms have helped to underpin a fifteen-fold increase in Egypt’s FDI between 2001 and 2006. FDI reached a record USD 9 billion in the first three quarters of its 2007 fiscal year. This compares with USD 6.1 billion for the whole of 2006.

The OECD presented the draft of a new report on corporate governance in the region which provides a comprehensive overview of the legal framework, actual practice and reform priorities. The meeting discussed the 2004 OECD Principles of Corporate Governance and corporate governance reform in Ukraine.
