Strengthening entrepreneurship and local economic development in East Germany

OECD provides guidance for assessment of corporate governance rules and practices

The OECD has taken an important step to reinforce the role of its Principles of Corporate Governance as a global standard by issuing guidance for users in assessing their implementation. The Principles, agreed by governments in 1999 and revised in 2004, are designed to maintain public trust in companies and stock markets.

The OECD steps up its work to improve corporate governance

The OECD has now taken an important step to facilitate the use of the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance . Following widespread demand, it has released a Methodology for Assessing Implementation of the OECD Principles. The Methodology can be used by independent assessors and for self-assessments by, inter alia, national authorities. It will also be used by the World Bank under its Review of Standards and Codes (ROSC) programme.

OECD's risk awareness tool offers guidance for multinationals in “weak governance” zones

Multinational enterprises investing in countries characterised by weak or non-existent government need to take special care in handling a range of risks and ethical dilemmas not usually encountered in countries with stronger governance arrangements. OECD's Risk Awareness Tool for Multinational Enterprises in Weak Governance Zones is designed to help them.

"The Latin American Roundtable Companies Circle 2nd Edition", featuring the experience of 13 leading Latin American companies, was launched on the occasion of the 4th meeting of the Latin American Roundtable Companies Circle , held on November 22, 2006 in  São Paulo, Brazil. The meeting also advanced work on the development of a Companies Circle practical guide to implementation of good corporate governance.

The UN Secretary General’s Special Representative on business and human rights has just published a survey of the human rights practices of the Fortune Global 500 companies. The survey results include information on the Global 500 companies’ references to external instruments, including to the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.

Capacity building seminar on “Evaluation as a Tool for Local Development Strategy Building” Trento, Italy

The seminar will bring together the policy makers and practitioners from the CEE and SEE countries allowing for discussion i) how to best introduce and implement prior assessment so that it serves as a tool for local strategy design and delivery ii) how to best support the local level so that evaluation becomes an opportunity for learning and stops being perceived as a threat.

Sixth meeting of the Eurasia Corporate Governance Roundtable, Istanbul, Turkey

Seminar on “Evaluating Local Development Strategies” Bratislava, Slovak Republic

CEI Summit Economic Forum, Bratislava, Slovakia

This year, the CEI SEF addressed the theme of Reforms key to Competitiveness. It was a platform to make business contacts and establish co-operation on investment projects and development programmes. The SEF also provided a unique chance to discuss structural reforms for improving business environment, development strategies for raising competitiveness, with a special focus on energy, infrastructure, and human resources. Sixth Meeting of the Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable, Lima, Peru

The Sixth Meeting of the Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable took place in Lima, Peru, on 20 - 21 September, 2005.  The Roundtable reviewed progress in implementing the recommendations of the Latin American White Paper on Corporate Governance, considered emerging practices in strengthening enforcement, and experience in improving board effectiveness.  Participants also exchanged experience regarding the relevance of the new OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises in the Latin American context.

OECD-MENA Working Group 5, meets in Rabat, Morocco
