The Volumes 3 and 4 on "Safety Assessment of Transgenic Organisms: OECD Consensus Documents" are now available. They compile documents issued between 2006 and 2010. These books should be of value to applicants for commercial uses of transgenic organisms (crops, trees, microorganisms), to regulators and risk assessors in national authorities, as well as the wider scientific community.

Do employers make the best use of people’s skills for innovation? This new book shows that interaction within organisations - as well as individual and organisational learning and training - are important for innovation. The analytical tools and empirical results this study provides show how some work organisations may foster innovation through the use of employee autonomy and discretion, supported by learning and training opportunities.

The delivery of sustainable economic growth across multiple disciplines is a high priority on the policy agendas of the OECD member and non-member countries. Reviewing the industrial biotechnology innovation systems of these countries provides an excellent opportunity to evaluate the contribution to sustainable growth of this highly innovative and complex industrial sector. While the bio-based economy-related issues of OECD countries have been largely studied; those of the BRICS countries have not been duly addressed.

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in partnership with the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) Genomics Network (EGN) hosted a major Forum on 6-7 December 2010 at the OECD Headquarters in Paris. This Forum reviewed how knowledge in the life sciences is governed, shared, regulated and managed, and explored new linkages between the life sciences and information and communication technologies.

It provides up-to-date information on OECD activities related to biotechnology. It is mainly intended for delegates to OECD meetings already familiar with certain aspects of the work, but is expected to be also informative for the wider biotech community.

The Symposium was held on 17 May 2010 in Montpellier, France. The overall goal of the meeting was to devise the first draft of a policy agenda and recommendations on how genomics can boost the development of the bioeconomy. The main messages which came out of the meeting were the need for guidelines on international cooperation in genomics R&D; the need to further advance the areas of genomics through innovative IPR management models; and the need for innovative approaches to measure the economic impact of genomics.

The OECD-Norway Workshop on Monday 21 June 2010 aims to bring together government and academic experts, and other interested parties, to discuss the latest developments and evidence on these performance-based funding systems. The workshop will include presentations on models of performance-based funding used by governments, the indicators incorporated within such models, and the impacts and consequences of these systems on institutional performance and incentives.

"Space Technologies and Climate Change" presented at the United Nations (Feb. 2009)
The OECD IFP was invited to present its work on the global Earth observation infrastructure (summarised in the publication “Space Technologies and Climate Change”) at the IAF Symposium on "The role of Earth observation satellites in promoting understanding and addressing climate change concerns". The event was held at the United Nations in Vienna, during the forty-sixth session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. OECD ministers to discuss climate change, trade and global economy at annual meeting, Paris, 4-5 June

The economic impact of climate change, trade, growth and development issues will be discussed at the OECD’s annual ministerial meeting, in Paris on 4-5 June 2008. Working Group - 5th meeting: indicators and statistics on the space economy

The OECD Forum on Space Economics Working Group met in Paris on February 19th. The main theme of discussions concerned indicators and statistics on the space economy (definition…). Working Group members particularly encouraged the development of an innovative OECD Working Paper entitled “The Guide to Measuring the Space Economy”, to become available in summer 2008.

Global Forum on Space Economics: 1st Meeting of the Steering Group

On 16 and 17 February 2006, the Steering Group of the OECD Global Forum on Space Economics met to discuss the directions of work of the Forum. The Steering Group is composed of representatives of space agencies and ministries, in line with the intergovernmental nature of OECD Forums. Global Forum on Space Economics

On 27th and 28th October 2005, senior policy makers and decision makers from the space sector met in Paris to discuss the creation of an OECD Global Forum for the Economic Analysis of the Space Sector. The Forum, which operates within the OECD International Futures Programme, focused on the economic and social dimensions of space applications and exploration, thereby filling an important gap in the current international institutional framework for space-related activities. Space technology has huge potential to provide practical responses to society’s major challenges. Over the coming decades, governments will increasingly be confronted with long-term problems such as threats to the environment or the management of decreasing natural resources.
