Key findings from the OECD-ILO Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility

Jointly organised by OECD and ILO, this conference was devoted to the theme of "Employment and Industrial Relations: Promoting Responsible Business Conduct in a Globalising Economy". Discussions focused on wider dissemination of good corporate labour practices and better understanding and use of the OECD and ILO instruments. The key findings from this conference are now available.

Mobilising Financing for the Environment in Russia

The report provides an update of some of the developments in environmental expenditure and finance in the Russian Federation. It presents the latest available data on trends in environmental expenditure and reviews a series of instruments to finance environmental policies in Russia, namely, revenues from economic instruments, user charges for water supply and sanitation, environmental funds, intergovernmental transfers, local capital markets and environmental assistance.

OECD/ITF Global Forum on Sustainable Development: Transport and Environment in a Globalising World

This Forum jointly organised by the OECD/ITF and the Mexican Ministry for Environment will consider major transport trends – both in large urban areas and those raised by a globalizing economy – with a special focus on developments in Latin America. Speaking to the Energy Leaders Summit in London today, OECD Secretary-General A. Gurría warned that the cost of ambitious emissions reductions will be higher than previously estimated. He noted, however, that it is still more affordable than the costs and consequences of inaction. He stressed that we need to use the right mix of policies, including putting a price on greenhouse gas emissions and developing new low-carbon technologies.

Environmental Compliance Assurance: Trends and Good Practices - International Conference, OECD Headquarters, Paris, 17-18 November 2008

The conference brought together environmental policy and enforcement officials, as well as industry representatives and non-government experts to exchange experiences on the good practices and trends in environmental compliance assurance in OECD countries and major emerging economies. Conference participants discussed the results of a two-year OECD comparative study of compliance promotion, monitoring, and enforcement instruments in six OECD member countries and two major emerging economies.
