A report on the symposium on the design of rehabilitation software for dyscalculia held at INSERM on September 20, 2003. The aim was to bring together scientific specialists in the fields of both dyscalculia and dyslexia in order to exchange their expertise and experience. Remedial tools that have already been pilot tested (and their outcomes), and others (notably computer software programmes) that are currently under development, in order to combat dyscalculia and dyslexia were presented by scientists from Austria, Finland, France, the UK and the USA.

The Third Meeting of the Lifelong Learning Network Meeting

The 3rd meeting of the Lifelong Learning network of OECD/CERI’s Learning Sciences and Brain Research project took place at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Wako-Shi, Saitama, Japan on 21-22 January 2005. The meeting brought together some 30 experts, mixing neuroscience and educational researchers with a few practitioners and policymakers. Participants were present from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, UK and USA.

A report on the Literacy Network and Numeracy Network Deliberations held in Brockton, MA, USA, from 29-31 January 2003. The goals of this meeting were to determine consensus within cognitive neuroscience as it relates to knowledge in literacy and mathematics education research; to innovate research in both of these areas; and to think about how to make this knowledge more accessible to a global audience of educators and policymakers.

Les importantes dépenses d’équipement de ces 20 dernières années ont permis de faire entrer les nouvelles technologies de l'information et de la communication (TIC) dans la quasi-totalité des établissements scolaires des pays les plus avancés de l'OCDE, mais selon un nouveau rapport de l'Organisation l’utilisation de l'informatique au quotidien dans ces établissements reste décevante.

Report of the Second Meeting of Lifelong Learning Network

The Second Meeting of the Lifelong Learning Network was held from 13-14 January 2004 in Tokyo Japan, and hosted by RIKEN BSI in collaboration with OECD-CERI. Findings from the network laboratories were presented and discussed in the first three sessions: "Learning in Infancy", "Learning in Childhood", and "Learning Across Life". The final session included two special presentations.
