Green Growth and Development Workshop

OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) is organising a workshop on "Green Growth and Development" on 28 June. This one-day workshop aims to provide an interactive platform for discussion among representatives from developing countries, environmental specialist from development agencies, and invited guest speakers on the relevance of green growth to developing countries.

Aid for Trade to the LDCs: Starting to Show Results

Since the adoption of the Brussels Programme of Action for Least Developed Countries in 2001, the share of the Least Developed Countries in world merchandise trade has increased and some of this improved capacity to trade is attributable to USD 73 billion donors committed to trade-related aid programmes. This new publication, a joint OECD-WTO contribution to the Fourth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (Istanbul, Turkey, 9-13 May), shows the results achieved by some of these programmes and the lessons to be learned.

Earth Day on DEReC - highlights from evaluation

The focus on integrating environmental factors into development assistance has grown in the past years. The selected reports, from Finland and the Asian Development Bank, highlight positive steps that have been taken, and remaining challenges: from the need for clear definitions of environmental objectives, to the lack of ownership by environmental agencies of capacity development projects.

Aid risks: Key conclusions and recommendations for fragile and transitional contexts

International engagement in fragile and transitional contexts presents significant risks for donors and implementing partners but holds the potential for even higher rewards in terms of improved results and outcomes. Importantly, the risks of failing to engage in these contexts outweigh most of the risks of engagement. "Aid risks in fragile and transitional contexts" reviews donor approaches to risk management and recommends actions to improve donor behaviour and approaches to risk.

The OECD Development Centre Asia desk hosted the ADB-OECD joint seminar on “Asian Development Outlook 2011” on the 8th of April 2011

Mr. Joseph Zveglich, Assistant Chief Economist at the Asian Development Bank presented the key findings of the report. OECD Development Centre, Economics Department, Development Cooperation Directorate and IFRI provided comments. According to the report, Asia is forecast to grow by 7.8% in 2011 and 7.7% in 2012. The region faces two critical challenges-inflation pressures and capital flows. The importance of South-South links was also highlighted. This event brought together a large number of participants within OECD  as well as the audience coming from Southeast Asian countries.

In 2010, net official development assistance (ODA) flows from members of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD reached USD 128.7 billion, representing an increase of +6.5 % over 2009.

OECD, WTO to release Aid for Trade at a Glance 2009

This second monitoring report will examine recent developments, present a comprehensive analysis of donor and partner country engagement, address the regional dimension of Aid for Trade, and present country factsheets assessing the outcomes and impacts of the initiative. OECD Secretary-General A.Gurria and WTO Director-General P.Lamy will launch the report during the Second Global Review of Aid for Trade (Geneva, 06-07 July).

Looking for results - Coherent policies for development

Dambisa Moyo, author of "Dead Aid" introduced the debate at the meeting on coherent policies for development at the OECD. Over a hundred participants gathered to discuss the need to look beyond aid in the efforts to promote development. The international network of experts on policy coherence also discussed ways to assess progress in the field of policy coherence and shared national experiences.

The Crisis and ICT take the stage at 2009 Africa Forum

On Friday 5 June 2009, most of the 600 participants in the IXth International Economic Forum on Africa entered the congress hall willing to challenge the high-level invited panelists. There were very critical questions stating that the majority of the benefits of the economic growth goes to foreign multinationals. 2nd OECD-Southeast Asia Regional Forum: Enhancing Competitiveness through Regional Integration

Latin American Economic Outlook presented in Berlin
