Korea should maintain pace of regulatory reform, finds OECD

Korea has made impressive progress in reforming its regulatory policies and institutions over the last few years but needs to keep up the pace of reform to ensure Korea’s long-term economic growth, according to a new OECD report.

The OECD Social Expenditure Database (SOCX) has been developed in order to serve a growing need for indicators of social policy. It includes reliable and internationally comparable statistics on public and private social expenditure, from 1980 to 2003 for 30 OECD countries. This version also includes for the first time estimates of net total social spending for 2003 for 24 OECD countries.

Society at a Glance: OECD Social Indicators - Edition 2007

This is a compendium of data comparable over time and across countries on issues ranging from income and employment to life expectancy and fertility, public spending on social welfare and health and indicators of ‘life satisfaction’.

Cutting red tape: national strategies for administrative simplification

Most OECD countries have made policies to reduce administrative burdens – cutting red tape – a political priority. Red tape is particularly burdensome to smaller companies and may inhibit entrepreneurship. These effects are more costly in global markets, where competitiveness can be affected by the efficiency of the domestic regulatory and administrative environment. But citizens and large firms also complain about unnecessary reporting requirements. Results are wanted.

Collaborative Africa budget reform initiative – special issue of the OECD Journal on Budgeting

The OECD Journal on Budgeting, Volume 6, Number 2 (2006) contains selected case studies and papers based on presentations at the annual CABRI budget reform seminars in 2004 and 2005. One of the aims of the Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative is to contribute to a common African resource base for African officials on public financial management in Africa. Co-operation between CABRI and the OECD network of Senior Budget Officials draws on contributions by the SBO at the CABRI seminars and through insights on how a senior budget officials network can operate.
