This new study looks at the design and implementation of environmental standards and regulations, taxes, payments and tradable permit schemes to address agri-environmental issues. It finds that no single policy measure will achieve all goals; a combination of complementary policy instruments is needed.

The workshop discussed major economic and institutional issues related to rebuilding fisheries, with participants relating their experiences and initiatives.

The new issue of the Newsletter prepared by the OECD Internal Co-ordination Group for Biotechnology (ICGB) is now available. It provides up-to-date information on OECD activities related to biotechnology. It is mainly intended for delegates to OECD meetings already familiar with certain aspects of the work, but is expected to be also informative for the wider biotech community.

Management strategy evaluation (MSE) is designed to identify fishery rebuilding and harvest strategies that are robust to uncertainty and natural variation, and that balance biological and socioeconomic objectives. Case studies demonstrate its application and compare usage of MSE with bioeconomic modelling suggesting how each procedure can profit by drawing from the other.
