Agricultural Policies are dominated by broad measures such as market price support and general payments to all land, animals or farmers. As a result, it is often difficult to associate a particular policy with any specific objective and yet targeting policies to meet such objectives is necessary for improving the efficiency of govenment intervention.

Government support to farmers falls slightly amid higher world food prices

Government support to farmers in OECD countries represented 27 % of total farm receipts in 2006, a slight fall from the 29% share the previous year, according to a new OECD report. The drop was due mainly to rising world food prices rather than changes in policies, as less support was provided to prop up domestic prices.

Report of the OECD Pesticide Risk Reduction Steering Group Workshop "Pesticide User Compliance"

This report presents a summary of the discussions at, and the outcomes from, the OECD workshop on Pesticide User Compliance Issues. The workshop was held in Ottawa, from 6-8 June 2006 and was hosted by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). The focus of the workshop was on issues and impediments to compliance associated with pesticide use. Such issues were addressed in the context of reducing risks to human health and the environment as well as risks to the integrity of the regulatory process.

Survey of the Pesticide Risk Reduction Steering Group on Minor Uses of Pesticides

In response to a questionnaire on minor uses fifteen countries and the European Commission responded. They include Australia, Canada, Estonia , European Commission, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Republic of Korea, Slovakia, Switzerland, UK, and the US.
The report is a collation of various aspects such as responsible regulatory authorities/agencies, data requirements, activities being pursued and regulatory mechanisms for approving minor uses in member countries.

Growing bio-fuel demand underpinning higher agriculture prices, says joint OECD-FAO report

Increased demand for bio-fuels is causing fundamental changes to agricultural markets that could drive up world prices for many farm products, according to a new report published by the OECD and the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation.
