Funding Systems and their Effects on Higher Education Systems - International Report (Education Working Paper No. 6)

This study focuses on higher education funding systems in: Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Norway, Portugal and the Slovak Republic. Each study was designed and conducted within an overall common framework by a project partner from the respective country.

Traditional academic cultures and relationships are being challenged, bringing new social dynamics to higher education systems and increasing diversity and differentiation within and between institutions. This newsletter is published three times a year by IMHE, the unique OECD international forum designed for higher education institutions.

This issue presents the initial findings on the project entitled “ Supporting the Contribution of Higher Education Institutions to Regional Development” which looks for innovative solutions on how to manage the regional interface.

International Workshop Institutional Diversity: Rankings and Typologies in Higher Education, 4-5 December, Bonn, Germany

Increasing pressure for comparison and ranking of institutions, nationally and internationally, is having an impact on institutional strategy and priorities. These developments raise questions about how rankings are affecting institutions, how they should be compared and grouped, and whether they are in the public interest. This IMHE/OECD conference is jointly organised with the German Hochschulerektorenkonferenz-HRK.
