On February 9, 2009 the OECD held a consultation on its project on High Net Worth Individuals (“HNWI”). The consultation followed from the release of a discussion paper on the project (October 2008). The consultation was attended by over 20 industry representatives and private client advisors and over 25 senior officials from OECD member and observer countries. Moves by major financial centres to improve transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes mark a significant step forward in international tax cooperation and a welcome result of more than 12 years of OECD work reinforced by the imminence of the G-20 summit next month, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría said.

The Isle of Man and Germany announced that they have signed a bilateral agreement for the exchange of information for tax purposes, bringing to 13 the number of such agreements entered into by the Isle of Man.

Australia and the Isle of Man have signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) and an agreement for the allocation of taxing rights over certain income of individuals. In addition, Australia and the Isle of Man have announced they will seek to continue to examine what further measures could be adopted to enhance their economic and trading relationship, and ways in which bilateral cooperation can be made as effective as possible.

On 7 July 2008, the OECD Committee on Fiscal Affairs called for comments on a draft new Article 7 of the OECD Model Tax Convention and related Commentary changes. The OECD has now published the comments received on that draft.
