Aid for Trade is building stronger economies

All countries need to trade, with their neighbours and  globally, to sustain  long-term economic growth. Some low-income countries lack the instutitions, infrastructure and supply-side capacity to benefit from open markets and lift their people out of poverty.

The OECD organised a series of Practitioners Fora on Monitoring Aid for Trade as part of the regional aid-for-trade events that were hosted by the WTO and the Regional Development Banks in Latin America (Lima, Peru, 13-14 September), Asia (Manila, Philippines, 19-21 September), and Africa (Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, 1-2 October) in advance of the first Annual Global Review of Aid for Trade in the November 2007 WTO General Council meeting.

OECD Regional Forum on Trade Facilitation, 27-28 September 2006

The OECD Development Co-operation and Trade Directorates, in collaboration with the Government of Cameroon, organised a Regional Forum on "Maximising the Developmental Benefits of Trade Facilitation". The Forum took place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on 27-28 September 2006.

'Aid for Trade: From Policy to Practice', Doha, 6-7 November, 2006

A Policy Dialogue between OECD Members and non-Members "Aid for Trade: From Policy to Practice" took place in Doha, Qatar on 6 and 7 November 2006. This Policy Dialogue between OECD and non-OECD countries on Aid for Trade brought together a wide range of stakeholders from developing and developed countries to share experiences and information on how best to support developing countries' trade expansion and make it an engine of economic growth and poverty reduction. Presentations  are available for download.

Aid for trade capacity in poorer countries up by 50 per cent since Doha

The amount of trade-related technical assistance and capacity building — to help developing and least-developed countries to participate more efficiently in international trade — has increased by 50% since the Doha Ministerial Declaration in November 2001, according to a joint report by the WTO and the OECD.

OECD, WTO to release Aid for Trade at a Glance 2009 on 06 July

This second monitoring report will examine recent developments, present a comprehensive analysis of donor and partner country engagement, address the regional dimension of Aid for Trade, and present country factsheets assessing the outcomes and impacts of the initiative. OECD Secretary-General A.Gurria and WTO Director-General P.Lamy will launch the report during the Second Global Review of Aid for Trade (Geneva, 06-07 July).
