Competition brings prosperity

Opening the 100th meeting of the competition committee, Mr. Gurría reminded that competition is vital for economic growth. It stimulates efficiency and higher productivity, it disciplines managers, it reinforces incentives for innovation, and it speeds up the adjustment to change. He also mentioned OECD countries that have implemented pro-competition reforms have seen higher growth rates and lower unemployment than those who failed to reform. They have also proved to be more flexible and resilient to economic shocks.

Competition Law and Policy in Argentina

The OECD finds that in the past 25 years Argentina has made considerable, if uneven, progress toward building a successful market economy. Argentina's progress in competition policy has also been uneven, having been affected in many ways by the country's political and economic history.  The report was presented and peer-reviewed at the OECD-IDB Latin American Competition Forum in July 2006. The report describes and critiques competition law and enforcement in Argentina and offers some far-ranging recommendations on how it can be improved.  [Spanish Version]
