At a time when global economy is showing its early signs of recovery, the OECD, the CEPII and its business Club, under the auspices of the OECD Development Centre, are organizing their 5th joint conference entitled "Developing Countries and the Global Crisis" which will take place at the OECD Conference Centre, Paris, on 26-27 November 2009.

A meeting to examine how to support the employment and empowerment of women in the context of a global labour market in which work is increasingly feminised, informalised and precarious, identifying the deficits in Decent Work that affect women workers, before exploring the steps to be taken ensure that pro-poor growth policies support the movement of women into Decent Work and out of poverty. The discussions also addressed the implications of the financial crisis.

Angel Gurría gave a keynote speech on "The Global Economy and OECD: Distilling Lessons from a Financial Crisis" at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He also took part in bilateral meetings with several national delegations and high level representatives from the Council of Europe.

Immigration pressures are increasing in most OECD countries, with some countries experiencing unprecedented waves of immigration and others tightening their entry policies. Governments are faced with the task of achieving a balance between openness to international migration and the implementation of effective policies to ensure immigrant integration. To do this requires the right mix of selected and non-selected migrants, of temporary and permanent migrants, of high-skilled and low-skilled, and of openness and control.
