The real estate bubble is the topic of a seminar jointly organised by the OECD and the CEPII Club (Centre d'études prospectives d'informations internationals) 7 December 2005 at the OECD. Participants will debate such questions as « Is the real estate bubble only temporary or is it a permanent phenomenon? How does it relate to the world of finance? Critics say that power corrupts and attracts the corruptible, while some businesses argue that paying bribes to public officials, for instance, is simply the way affairs are run in some countries. Little wonder that corruption is one area where government performance is closely watched–and harshly assessed–by the public.

On 17 November, Margaret G. Wachenfeld, consultant, led a seminar for interested staff at the OECD on "International Organisations and Civil Society", describing the impressive progress of many institutions in developing new and more effective modes of dialogue with civil society. However, challenges remain for civil society and the institutions.
