OECD/CEPII Club "The Real Estate Bubble"

The real estate bubble is the topic of a seminar jointly organised by the OECD and the CEPII Club (Centre d'études prospectives d'informations internationals) 7 December 2005 at the OECD. Participants will debate such questions as « Is the real estate bubble only temporary or is it a permanent phenomenon? How does it relate to the world of finance? Will the bubble burst, or will there be a soft landing?”

OECD Forum in Berlin - "International Perspectives for Growth and Employment"

On 24 & 25 March, the OECD and the German Ministry for Economics and Labour met in Berlin with representatives from business, labour, civil society and the media to bring an international perspective to the reform agenda that is currently in the forefront of the German policy discussion.  OECD Secretary-General Donald J. Johnston and German Minister for Economy and Labour, Wolfgang Clement, opened the Forum, which looked at progress in economic reform that Germany has already made, steps that still need to be taken, and what can be learned from the experiences of other OECD countries.

Policy Brief: Poverty and Health in Developing Countries: Key Actions

Health is higher on the international agenda than ever before and improving the health of poor people is a central issue in development. Can improved health reduce poverty? What is a “pro-poor” health approach? How can policies outside the health sector help? What are global public goods for health and why are they important? How do trade agreements affect health in poor countries? How much money is needed to improve health in developing countries?

OECD High-level Parliamentary Seminar on Growth and Jobs

This seminar provided an opportunity to share the main conclusions of recent OECD reports, Boosting Jobs and Income: Policy Lessons from Reassessing the OECD Jobs Strategy, and Going for Growth 2006.
In OECD countries about 35% of working-age individuals are either unemployed or inactive, on average, and living standards in certain countries, notably Japan and some continental European countries, have recently fallen behind the best performers. This was an occasion for parliamentarians to explore their role in promoting public support for implementing reforms for growth and jobs.

Joint Meeting of Trade Union and OECD Experts on Globalisation and Corporate Income Tax

The Centre for Tax Policy and Administration (CTPA) will present recent trends in corporate tax reforms in OECD countries and measures addressing harmful tax practices.  The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) will present its 2006 Report on Corporate Income Tax.  The meeting is part of the OECD Labour and Management Programme and is by invitation only.

OECD High-level Parliamentary Seminar "The Policy Implications of Ageing Populations"

How to maintain pension levels when, by 2050, there might well be only one person in employment for every person in retirement? How to control costs of long-term care, make it available to the most needy, and roll back the onset of disability in old-age? This seminar was an opportunity for parliamentarians to share the conclusions of recent OECD work on ageing and discuss challenges facing all OECD countries as a result of their ageing populations.

High-level OECD Parliamentary Seminar on Growth and Services

An OECD High Level Parliamentary Seminar on education took place at OECD headquarters in Paris on Wednesday 23 February 2005, featuring the latest results from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), an internationally standardised assessment jointly developed by participating countries and administered to 15-year-olds. High-Level Parliamentarian Seminar Corporate Governance (Paris)

Parliamentarians have a key role to play in helping governments and societies to improve corporate governance standards, and thereby improve the foundations for economic growth and development the world over.  At this seminar, the OECD will present its work on corporate governance, including the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance.  The Principles, first issued in 1999, provide a set of corporate governance standards to guide policy makers, parliamentarians, regulators, investors and other private sector actors.
