The gobal economic crisis has led to a sharp contraction in steel production, consumption, prices and jobs. Finland has reduced pollution and improved its environmental quality through pioneering approaches like green taxes. However, it must do more to green its economy by reducing the amount of energy and materials used per unit of GDP, tackling climate change, and addressing health impacts of pollution and management of waste.

Luxembourg has today signed a protocol to its double taxation convention with Denmark. The protocol, which allows exchange of bank information for tax purposes, brings the convention up to the OECD standard.

Speaking at a joint briefing on structural reform with Christine Lagarde, France’s Minister of Economy, Industry and Employment, Mr Gurría said unemployment and the public deficit – in France and elsewhere - will continue to rise. He added that the French stimulus plan should support growth and jobs in the short run.
