Working Communities Congress 2010

The second biennial Congress will explore international policy and local innovations to improve global perspectives on addressing unemployment. The Congress will be a forum for international thought leaders – to share experiences and strategies to broaden perspectives, challenge thinking and inspire innovative solutions – towards the goal of creating healthy, vibrant and sustainable working communities.
Organised by NESA, the peak body for providers of Australian employment services, in partnership with the OECD LEED Programme.

6th annual meeting of OECD LEED Forum on partnerships and local governance

Despite the first signs of economic recovery, unemployment will remain high for the years to come.  The 6th Annual Meeting will bring together some 200 representatives of local partnerships, government officials, social entrepreneurs, business leaders, trade unions and academics to review how local development actors are adapting to this new reality and what are the innovations emerging on the ground to respond to these new challenges.

Report on "Strengthening Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in East Germany: Lessons from Local Approaches"

The report  is the result of a two-year work programme on the challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurship development in East Germany undertaken by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, through its Local Economic and Employment Development Programme (LEED), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS), Angelegenheiten der Neuen Länder department.

OECD Local Leadership and Economic Recovery Network

This network is a high level working group of economic development practitioners aiming at raising awareness on the role of cities in the current situation and on their role in building part of the new economic system. A selection of top cities, development agencies and stakeholders share data and facts about the current situation especially focused on employment, skills, entrepreneurship, business competitiveness and the openness of the local economies.

The Austrian Institute for SME Research published a detailed report on January 2009, in co-operation with the European Association for Information on Local Development (AEIDL) and the European Network for Social and Economic Research. The study focuses on companies’ activities which aim at achieving a benefit for the enterprises’ employees, the market (i.e. clients, suppliers, business partners etc.) and/or the physical environment in local communities (Executive Summary).

Compendium of OECD recommendations for policy action and local initiatives to strengthen entrepreneurship

The compendium is part of the project on "Strengthening Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in East Germany"carried out by the OECD and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Land, Construction, Transport and Urban Affairs. The compendium is built of several themes of relevance to local entrepreneurship development in East Germany. It brings together recommendations, International learning models and good practice in East Germany.

Routes out of the crisis: Strategies for local employment recovery and skills development in Asia

While no country has been spared from the effects of the financial and economic crisis, the diverse impact has been quite evident in Asia.
The joint ILO/OECD LEED meeting aims to strengthen the capacity of constituents, policy makers and practitioners at local level to undertake effective employment recovery and skills strategies in response to the financial and economic crisis.

URBACT Annual Conference, Stockholm (Sweden)

Interactive thematic workshops will focus on innovation and creativity, human capital & entrepreneurship, cities and demographic change, preserving or creating urban identities, governance models, regeneration of deprived neighbourhoods, the implementation of the Leipzig Charter, and cities response to the economic crisis.

Agora Talentia, Pamplona, Spain

On 11-12 February 2009, the Spanish city of Pamplona will host Agora Talentia, the first International Forum on Talent in the Knowledge Age. Talentia is organised by the Regional Government of Navarre, the Navarre Innovation Agency (ANAIN) and the Navarre Foundation for Diversification (FND), in collaboration with the OECD LEED Programme.
