This high-level event, was jointly organised by the OECD, the Milan City Council and the Province of Milan. It brought together ministers, mayors, eminent personalities from the Club of Madrid (former Heads of States and Governments), prominent experts, and representatives of international organisations and government networks, to examine one of the key global challenges facing cities today - climate change. The conference looked at the relationships between urbanisation and climate change, and the implications of urban policy making in relation to competitiveness objectives.

Rethinking the Urban Policy Agenda", co-organised by the OECD and the Spanish authorities, will be held 29-30 March 2007 at the Municipal Congress Hall, in Campo de las Naciones, Madrid. It will bring together government leaders, policy makers and practitioners to examine urban policy in the context of globalisation and the growing challenges for cities.

The OECD hosted an international workshop on “Defining and Measuring Metropolitan Regions” on 27 November 2006 in Paris. The workshop brought together major international organisations, National Statistical Offices and researchers from this field.
