The OECD report "Water Governance in OECD Countries: A Multi-level Approach" explores multi-level governance challenges in water policy implementation and identifies good practices for coordinating water policy across ministries, between levels of government, and across local actors at sub-national level. It summarises the findings from an extensive survey on water governance accross 17 OECD countries and suggests preliminary guidelines for effective management of multi-level governance in water policy.

The Netherlands is successfully transforming the way it manages specific areas of the country. Investments in infrastructure and housing are now better coordinated and focus on strong city-regions. These place-based policies strengthen regions in the Netherlands, complement other national initiatives, and fit with the growing importance of cities as economic drivers. However, accessibility and housing remain major challenges, according to OECD’s new National place-based policies in the Netherlands.

The Annual OECD Rural Development Conference was this year held in Quebec, Canada. Combining a series of workshops, exhibits and field visits, this broad ranging conference looked at rural policy in relation to a vast array of sectors including forestry, energy, climate change, tourism and more. It focused on responding to the financial crisis and recession in rural areas.
